(also called Comprehension/Extension).— The distinction in logic between the intelligible notes of a term, i.e., its intension, and the things in reality that it is supposed to indicate, i.e., its extension. E.g., the intension of “prime minister” is “the head of a state or government” whereas the extension is all the things in reality that “prime minister” indicates: Winston Churchill, Indira Gandhi, Apolo Nsibambi, etc.
