State

(also called Civil Society, Political Society, Political Community).— The natural perfect society constituted by families and individuals. “State” is sometimes used as a synonym for “government” or governing personnel, as though distinct from the political community. This kind of distinction can be legitimate, provided that that the government is understood as in some respect representing the state as a whole.
