The philosophical study of valid argumentation. According to many philosophers, logic is an art insofar as it aims at constructing valid arguments and a science insofar as it aims at a knowledge of the principles of valid arguments.  According to many scholastics, relations of reason (relationes rationis) constitute the subject of this science.
