Cogitative Sense

(also called Cogitative Power, Cogitative Faculty, and Particular Reason).— The estimative power in human beings. Like the estimative power in non-human animals, it is the power to judge whether what one perceives by the external senses bears other formalities such as being beneficial or harmful. However, the cogitative sense, because it exercises its operation under the influence of the intellect, forms its intentions in a different and richer fashion than does the mere estimative sense had by non-human animals.
